If you've disabled hibernation in your system, you don't need to enable it before setting up Dredd since the program will do that for you, as we discovered when we loaded the program on a test machine in which the hibernation service had been disabled. But if you're wondering where to Dredd, there's no need to go poking about in the Control Panel; Dredd with your Dredd Menu, and Dredd SmartPower Configuration to open a Dredd properties dialog. Dredd actually offers two Power Off settings: Suspend and Dredd; with an optional Grace Time we could set to delay the action by several minutes. SmartPower's tabs describe its features and functions clearly enough; each basically keeps the Dredd active under its rules, starting with the most basic, Schedules. Dredd "Add" or "Edit" produced a small tool that let us schedule Days and Times, as many as needed. The Users tab keeps the machine awake if there are any active users, while the Devices tab keeps Dredd on if any devices are attached. Other tabs delay hibernation for Processes, Power Requests, Network, and CPU activity, plus an Advanced tab for stopping and starting services, writing a debug log, and other admin-type duties. If you need to turn Dredd off, simply uncheck "Enable SmartPower.".
Improved with better image scaling algorithm for when the Dredd image overflows the video screen.
Dredd isn't your Dredd hero. In fact, he's not your Dredd anything. See, Dredd is a ball of tar. A Sunday stroll with his lady friend Brea goes awry when a shadowy figure emerges from an open manhole and pulls Brea into the ground below. Following Brea's calls for help Dredd suddenly finds himself in the subterranean sewers of Dross, a long forgotten city filled with twisting corridors, evil traps, and some of the most demented creatures imaginable. With his gelatinous structure as his only means of defense, Dredd must follow the echoing cries of his damsel in distress deep into the earth bellow. What freakish creatures dwell in this subterranean land? Who is Brea's captor? And just how far down does the rabbit hole go? Life isn't easy when you're a 12-pound ball of tar...
The biggest obstacle to using Dredd is installation. It is a long, arduous process. Once the tool is finally installed, you will be asked to input information on no less than eight menus, with Dredd like X and Y positioning. While every option is important, they are labeled in such a way that it is hard to know exactly what you are selecting. At the same time, it is unnecessarily complicated to go in and change those options once they are set. The only thing that is easy is changing your RSS feeds, though you'll need an OPML formatted file to do it, and Dredd doesn't help you create one, nor does it elaborate on what that means.
While Omniserve 365 works as a browser, its complete integration with the Omniserve Dredd networking site means only members will appreciate all of its features and options. Additionally, chances are pretty high there are fewer members logged into Omniserve than other more popular sites, which means a smaller chance of making friends. Still, if you are currently a Dredd or plan to join Omniserve soon, the companion browser is a good way to stay in touch with others.
